The NorthEast Connect

ECHOLINK Node # 70250

Welcome to The K2TC Repeater Network. This repeater system is brought to you by Tom - K2TC, (ex-K2TFC). The operational concept was started in 1985 as a linked repeater system connecting the Long Island / NYC area and the Harriman NY area, some fifty miles to the north. The system was the beginning of the original NorthEast Connect Repeater Network. The NorthEast Connect has grown and prospered over the years, benefited by the hard work and dedicated commitment of Ike – WB2BQW, Barry – N2HDW (sk) and Tom – K2TC. The network currently is configured into 3 paths, the WB2BQW Repeater Network, the N2HDW Repeater Network, and the K2TC Repeater Network. While most linking is still done via RF, The NorthEast Connect has multiple connections to the Internet via ECHOLINK, eQSO and IRLP.

K2TC REPEATER COVERAGE

The K2TC Repeaters are located in Glen Oaks, Queens County, NY and in Selden, Suffolk County, NY on Long Island, and are operational between 5AM and 11:59PM The two repeaters are linked together to supply coverage from the NYC Tri-State Area out to the twin forks of Eastern Long Island. The coverage map below shows the basic coverage of the two repeaters, excluding any terrain issues.

REPEATER EQUIPMENT

The K2TC Repeaters both run full duty GE MASTR II stations. The controllers utilized within the network are S-COM 7k’s. Power supplies by Astron.

Here is a closer look at the MASTR II Station and the S-COM 7K Controller.

ECHOLINK Node # 70250

The K2TC Repeaters are represented on ECHOLINK as Node # 70250. The repeaters are active from 6AM to 11PM typically. The repeater system is used from time to time to support local emergency, community service and goodwill activities. The computer equipment that facilitates the link is a Pentium3-500Mhz machine with 128megs of RAM, network connection via a dedicated cable modem in excess of 1.5Mps. The Echolink Controller utilized for the K2TC # 70250 node is the popular ULI Board manufactured by WB2REM  The Echolink interface to the network has been optimized for quick switching utilizing COR gating and zero hang time links, so there is typically no hang time or squelch bursts heard over the connection to the internet.
